The low-drama photo-day plan

A good photograph does not require a brand-new personality, a complicated outfit or an hour of styling. Make the familiar version look a little more intentional and protect the routine around it.

Choose comfort first.

Start with a shirt, sweater or dress shape the person already tolerates. Then choose the cleanest, best-fitting version in a color that works with the background. Avoid testing scratchy collars, stiff shoes or complicated fastenings on the same morning.

Do the visible things only.

Prioritize clean face, tidy hair, comfortable clothes and one quick check for lint or food marks. Stop before the preparation becomes harder than the picture.

Bring one backup.

A second familiar top can solve a spill or last-minute refusal without turning the morning into a wardrobe debate. Keep it simple and easy to change into.

Let the photograph be enough.

Not every person looks at the camera or smiles on cue. A photograph can still be excellent when it looks like the person who was actually there.
