Make our visit plan →Marginal Way: take the short ocean section, not the heroic version
Ogunquit, Maine
The ocean is right there almost immediately. The mistake is deciding the only legitimate visit is the entire path from end to end. Pick an access point, walk until the view has done its job, sit, turn around.
The easiest version of the day
Four beats. Nothing heroic.
Use facilities in town/Perkins Cove before stepping onto the path.
An out-and-back segment can be the whole experience.
Sit with the ocean instead of treating the bench as failure.
Do not let the distance to the far end decide the day.
Accessibility field notes
What actually changes the visit.
- The Marginal Way Preservation Fund says strollers and wheelchairs can be accommodated and the path is roughly five feet wide in most areas.
- A special wheelchair is available through the Ogunquit Fire Department; the Fund says users leave a driver’s license while borrowing it.
- There are no public restrooms directly on the path, so use facilities before starting.
- Crowds and narrow passing spaces can change an otherwise accessible paved route; early/shoulder-season visits are easier.
Accessibility is specific to the person and to current conditions. Confirm anything that would determine whether the visit can work.
