Make our visit plan →Gilsland Farm: a gentle Maine nature stop that is getting more accessible
Falmouth, Maine
This is a good ‘we need air, not an attraction’ place: gentle trails, a visitor center, picnic options and enough nature to feel like you went somewhere without requiring a hike.
The easiest version of the day
Four beats. Nothing heroic.
Use the visitor center first for bathrooms, current closures and the easiest route.
Choose one short meadow/pond section rather than automatically doing a full loop.
Use the picnic area or a bench; watching birds can be the activity.
Nature Store if wanted, then car. There is no prize for completing the map.
Accessibility field notes
What actually changes the visit.
- Accessible restrooms are available at the Visitor Center.
- Maine Audubon’s new 2,075-foot All Persons Trail is scheduled to open during October 19–23, 2026. It is designed to U.S. Forest Service accessibility guidelines with compacted gravel, a 5-foot width (6 feet on boardwalk), maximum 5% slope and rest stops.
- The new trail plan includes accessible parking, including a van-accessible space, near the trailhead.
- Maine Audubon requests accommodation requests at least seven days before programs when possible.
Accessibility is specific to the person and to current conditions. Confirm anything that would determine whether the visit can work.
