Buenos Aires, Argentina · From the family camera roll
A little 1954 magic in Buenos Aires.
Mom-Mom and Grandpa Steve, a famous restaurant, and a very special number.

Mom-Mom and Grandpa Steve are off on another adventure! Before boarding their Viking cruise, they made a stop at Don Julio in Buenos Aires — a restaurant recommended by my colleagues in Argentina.
And what a gorgeous place for a photograph. Green-and-white striped awnings, a beautiful old building, and pumpkins everywhere. They look almost like New England in October, even though it's spring in Buenos Aires.
But one of my favorite pictures from this stop isn't of the restaurant at all.

Their little travel tradition
1954.
Mom-Mom and Steve were both born in 1954. Wherever they travel, if they spot that number on a building, sign, or street address, they take a photograph.
A small souvenir from every place they find it. I love that they have this tradition — a little reminder of the year they both came into the world.
Of all the things you can collect while traveling, I think this might be one of the sweetest. ❤️
A little adventure of their own.
These two give so much love and time to James and their other grandchildren. They're part of the family village that makes so many of our days possible, particularly when life involves the extra planning and support James needs.
They also love to travel. And I love seeing them out exploring together, doing something for themselves, collecting stories (and 1954s) along the way.
Oh, and don't worry: Ruby was in very good hands while they were away. 🐾

We have lots more to share from Mom-Mom and Steve's South American travels. For now, here's to a beautiful stop at Don Julio, a recommendation from colleagues halfway around the world, and another little piece of 1954 to add to the collection.
May they find a thousand more. ❤️❤️
The 1954 photo tradition
Have you ever found your year?
Mom-Mom and Grandpa Steve look for 1954 wherever they go. An old doorway, a date carved into a building, a street number in another country. It is such a little thing, and such a lovely way to remember a place.
Were you born in 1954, too? Have you ever stopped to photograph your own birth year, an anniversary or another number that means something to you? I'd love to hear what you've found.
